Nathanael Greene

Commissioned by the Sons of the Revolution. Located at the George Washington Memorial Chapel, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.

While doing research for this portrait, the Director of the Nathanael Greene Homestead in Rhode Island put me in touch with their official Nathanael Greene re-enactor. I brought him from Connecticut to my studio to model. His uniform was tailor made for him in Williamsburg and was accurate for the period that Nathanael Greene was at Valley Forge. Interestingly enough, until the1970s, my husband’s family owned the property where Greene’s plantation, Murray Hill, was located outside of Savannah, Georgia.
